The Special Investigations Unit is investigating a collision between a Greater Sudbury Police Service cruiser and a 75-year-old cyclist on Oct 18.
The cyclist suffered serious injuries in the incident.
Previously published information from GSPS said that at approximately 8:50 a.m. on Saturday, an officer driving a marked cruiser was westbound on Lorne Street and collided with the elderly cyclist, who was northbound and crossed in front of the cruiser at Regent Street.
Transported to hospital by ambulance, the cyclist suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Because the crash involved a police officer, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating.
In a Oct. 20 news release, the SIU said it has assigned two investigators and one forensic investigator to the case, and one subject official has been designated.
The preliminary information as SIU understands it, is this:
- At approximately 8:50 a.m. on Oct. 18, 2025, there was a collision involving an officer driving a marked cruiser and a male cyclist at the intersection of Lorne Street and Regent Street in Greater Sudbury. The collision occurred when the officer was en route to a call.
- Paramedics were called to the scene and transported the man who was riding the bicycle to hospital where he was treated for a serious, non-life-threatening injury.
The SIU urges anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php.
