To mark the launch, Play it Forward and the YMCA hosted a special event on Aug. 21 at the Sudbury Arena, featuring kids from the YMCA’s Wolves Summer Camp alongside Wolves players, coaches, and community partners. Volunteers — many of them YMCA members and alumni — will be at every home game throughout the season, helping to grow the 50/50 pot and the momentum.

Play it Forward** and YMCA of Northeastern Ontario have joined forces to help local families and children enjoy the benefits of sports and recreation.

A press release from YMCA NEO states that through this new partnership, funds will be raised via 50/50 draws at Sudbury Wolves and Sudbury Five games.

A press release about the initiative states the program is about breaking down financial barriers and making health, fitness, and play accessible to all kids in the community.

“This collaboration harnesses the passion of Sudbury’s sports fans to create meaningful change — because when you play, kids win,” the release states.

“At Play it Forward, we believe every child deserves the joy, growth, and connection that come from sports and recreation,” said Tim Laderoute, chairman of Play it Forward. “By partnering with the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario, we can reach even more kids, ensuring no one is left on the sidelines. Together, we’re building a more inclusive Sudbury—where every child has the chance to play, grow, and belong.”

Lorrie Turnbull, CEO of the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario said they are “committed to building a “healthier, more vibrant and resilient Sudbury” by reaching families who need support the most.

“Every child deserves the chance to play, grow, and belong,” Turnbull said. “This partnership ensures that cost is never a barrier and opens doors to opportunities like camp, swimming lessons, and sports programs that strengthen kids, families, and our entire community.”

Fans can purchase tickets online here and all proceeds will stay in the community, giving families access to YMCA programs and health and wellness services year-round.

**Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Play It Forward was a Calgary-based charity. That was incorrect. The initiative is the charitable arm of SW Sports and Entertainment, the Sudbury-based company that owns the Sudbury Wolves, Sudbury Five and Sudbury Spartans.
