SAULT STE. MARIE — A 58-year-old Sudbury woman faces charges from the Greater Sudbury Police Service stemming from an investigation by the Sault Ste. Marie Police
Sault Ste. Marie police say in April 2025, 911 communicators received a report of the accused having made more than 3,000 phone calls to an organization in Sault Ste. Marie in the past month.
At this time, the GSPS issued a verbal warning to the accused to stop calling the organization.
Despite being warned by the GSPS to stop calling the organization, police say 911 communicators with the Sault Police were informed the accused had not stopped.
Police say the accused called the organization an additional 364 times between April 9 and 17, 83 times between Aug. 12 and 15, and 572 times between Aug. 15 and 26.
It was reported the phone calls interfered with the organization’s operations. Warrants were obtained for the accused’s arrest.
On Sept. 24, the accused attended the GSPS and turned herself in.
As a result, the woman was arrested and charged with:
- Harassing Communications x3
- Mischief – Interfere with Lawful Use, Enjoyment, or Operation of Property x2
This is not the first time the accused has been charged for making a large number of phone calls.
A 2023 release said between Jan. 1, 2022 and July 31, 2022, "the accused made countless calls to Sault Police from Sudbury for non-emergency purposes, tying up phone lines and preventing 911 communicators from answering legitimate calls and radio transmissions."
Police say the accused would often call "over 100 times during a 12-hour shift."
She was also charged in 2021 for a similar offence.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 24.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
