Ollie North presents Cordano Russell

The Ollie North Skateboarding Association, a not-for-profit organization representing skateboarding and other wheeled sports in Greater Sudbury, is hosting a questions and answer and skate session with Canadian street skateboarder, Cordano Russell, on July 25 and 26. On Friday, July 25, Russell will be at the Delki Dozzi sports complex from 7 to 9 p.m. for a Q&A session, but space is limited, so register here to save a spot. Walk with a Doc

A new health promotion initiative takes off this coming weekend in Sudbury when city residents are invited to take a step toward better health through the Walk With A Doc (WWAD) program. It's an idea that encourages people to walk with physicians and other community members to take part in outdoor exercise. Dr. Michel A.S. Larivière and Associates of Sudbury are encouraging city residents to take a step toward better health through Walk with a Doc program taking place on Sunday, July 27 at 9 a.m. at the Science North patio, near the boardwalk. Organizers said there will be a brief five to 10 minute discussion of the benefits of walking, including your mental health, which is then to be followed by a 45 minute stroll along the Lake Ramsey boardwalk. The Peter Schneider Concert Series has been a highlight of Greater Sudbury’s summer, filling Bell Park with free, live music every Sunday evening. From June through August, the vibrant sounds of local and seasoned musicians have delighted audiences of all ages. With an eclectic list of performers every Sunday at 7 p.m, the concerts have become a beloved tradition for the Greater Sudbury community to come together and enjoy the magic of live music. Performing at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre July 27 is Twenty-One. Based in Sudbury, these seasoned musicians create a powerfully energetic musical experience for their audience. They honed their skills in projects such as the Evolutionary Band, tribute bands and a wide variety of local bands. They have built a well-rounded, fun and engaging repertoire of songs that will get folks of all ages singing along and tapping their feet.

Art Gallery of Sudbury exhibitions

The Art Gallery of Sudbury is running its exhibition The Sky: New Quilts by Judy Martin until Aug. 30 at its 174 Elgin St. location. From her home on Manitowaning Bay, Manitoulin Island, Judy Martin gazes daily at the vast blanket of sky stretching over the water. Each work is a prolonged durational work of time, labour, and design, taking inspiration from the reassuring continuity of the cosmic circles and unseen stars above us. Each quilt is completely unique, involving multiple uses of materials, including linen, silk, cotton, wool, and multiples techniques including natural dying and over-dying, painting, embroidery, and hand-stitching. AGS also has two-off site exhibitions: Kim Fahner at Pinchman’s until July 28 and Rory Perras at the Laughing Buddha until Sept. 15. Learn more on the gallery’s website.
