Sudbury Ukrainian Festival

Free downtown concert

Saturday afternoon in downtown Sudbury sounds like a perfect time to enjoy a little music. And with this in mind, Nickel City Wind Ensemble is staging a free concert on Durham Street in front of the YMCA that afternoon, hosted by the Sudbury Arts Council and Downtown Sudbury BIA. Led by David Young, Nickel City Wind is a 35-musician ensemble of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. They have been performing for 10 years now. The wind ensemble will play such recognizable favourites as “Lord of the Dance,” “Imagine,” “Hawaii 5-0 Theme,” “Sweet Caroline,” and medleys from “Jersey Boys” and “Chicago” to name a few. “Something new this past year from the Nickel City Wind Ensemble is the Nickel City Jazz Ensemble who will also perform Saturday,” the arts council said in a news release. “Some of the toe-tapping favourites are ‘Birdland,’ ‘Stompin' at the Savoy,’ ‘You Can't Stop the Beat’ and ‘A Night in Tunisia.’” Bring a lawn chair, water and a hat and enjoy two hours of late afternoon tunes from 3-5 p.m. on June 28.
Peter Schneider Concert Series

The Peter Schneider Concert Series has been a highlight of Greater Sudbury’s summer, filling Bell Park with free, live music every Sunday evening. From June through August, the vibrant sounds of local and seasoned musicians have delighted audiences of all ages. With an eclectic list of performers every Sunday at 7 p.m, the concerts have become a beloved tradition for the Greater Sudbury community to come together and enjoy the magic of live music. On June 29, Eric Clouthier performs at McNaughton Terrace. Cloutier is a powerhouse solo performer; known for his incredible voice and the raw energy he brings to the stage. With just a guitar, a stomp drum and his commanding presence, he fills the room with the sound and soul of a full band. His performances are a masterclass in musical storytelling, honest, immersive- and deeply human.
Canada Day activities
July 1
Science North has curated a full day of discovery, fun, and excitement across its site. From special offers and free activities to spectacular shows, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Events at Science North conclude with a drone show and a fireworks display. Check out the full schedule online here. The Sudbury Multicultural and Folk Arts Association is once again holding its Canada Day food fair at the Sudbury Arena. Events start with a parade from Memorial Park at 9:45 a.m., and the arena festivities run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Learn more online here. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76, 1553 Weller St., hosts Canada Day festivities and a dance. Lunch will be served at noon (hot dogs, hamburgers and pizza) for $5 each, while supplies last. A dance will be held from 1:30-4 p.m. with music by Victor John and Jean Dubreuil. Come back to the Legion grounds for the best view in town of the fireworks show starting at 10 p.m.
Italian Festival

The Società Caruso's Italian Festival is an annual celebration of Italian culture where the club encourages the community to come and experience the regional food, performances, music, and activities throughout the weekend. African Summer Board Games competition

The 2025 African Summer Board Games Competition is happening Saturday, July 5, at Morel Family Foundation Park in Sudbury, beginning at noon. Participants will have the opportunity to compete in games such as AYO/Oware, Omweso, Draft, and Ludo, while enjoying music, traditional African foods, and art and crafts. The event is free and open to all ages and skill levels, with registration online here.
Cambrian Pride Run
July 6
Sunday, July 6, is run day at Cambrian College. Cambrian is hosting its second annual Pride Run at its Barry Downe campus. The fundraising event is open to the entire Sudbury community and will support bursaries for Cambrian’s 2SLGBTQIA+ students. Cambrian’s Pride Run will take place from 8-11 a.m. The entry fee for the 5 km run/walk is $40, while the 1 km run/walk costs $20. Children 12 and under can run in the 1 km event for free. Fierté Sudbury Pride has announced its 2025 Pride Week celebrations, set to take place from July 6-13. Events include a 2S & Indigiqueer Art Exhibit on Monday, July 7, Youth Pride Prom on Friday, July 11, the Pride March and Block Party on Saturday, July 12 (this will include performances from Canada’s Drag Race season II royalty Océan Aqua-Black, and Call Me Mother contestant Dahlia Doll). Closing will be a Drag Brunch on Sunday, July 13 by 2-Spirit, First Nation led drag house Bawating Babes. Sudbury Blueberry Festival

Mark your calendars! The 2025 Sudbury Blueberry Festival takes place on Saturday, July 19 at Red Oak Villa (20 Ste. Anne Rd.). The festivities begin on Friday, July 18 with the annual Hike Up Blueberry Hill, hosted with the Rainbow Routes Association. This guided trek blends nature, storytelling and fresh blueberry treats. Festival day is Saturday, July 19, and includes a blueberry pancake breakfast, celebrity pie-eating contest, blueberry bash and farmer’s market and vendors. Wheelchair basketball try-out sessions

The two free wheelchair basketball try-out sessions are being offered on June 19 and July 27 in a bid to introduce the sport to the wider community and build interest in a new adaptive sports initiative. These “Try It Out” sessions are open to all ages and abilities. Participants will have the opportunity to experience wheelchair basketball in a welcoming, beginner-friendly environment with support from experienced coaches. Sport wheelchairs and equipment will be provided, said the release. Both tryout events will take place at the Sudbury YMCA venue on Durham Street, firstly on Thursday June 19, 8 p.m. to 8 p.m., and then secondly on Sunday July 27 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., said the release. Art Gallery of Sudbury exhibitions

The Art Gallery of Sudbury is running its exhibition The Sky: New Quilts by Judy Martin until Aug. 30 at its 174 Elgin St. location. From her home on Manitowaning Bay, Manitoulin Island, Judy Martin gazes daily at the vast blanket of sky stretching over the water. Each work is a prolonged durational work of time, labour, and design, taking inspiration from the reassuring continuity of the cosmic circles and unseen stars above us. Each quilt is completely unique, involving multiple uses of materials, including linen, silk, cotton, wool, and multiples techniques including natural dying and over-dying, painting, embroidery, and hand-stitching. AGS also has two-off site exhibitions: Kim Fahner at Pinchman’s until July 29 and Rory Perras at the Laughing Buddha until Sept. 15. Learn more on the gallery’s website.
