A transport driver from Orillia has been found guilty of careless operation causing death in relation to a collision that claimed the life of a horse-drawn buggy operator.
Leonard Mango and Hunt Trucking Ltd. initially faced numerous Highway Traffic Act charges stemming from a Dec. 4, 2023 collision that happened on Highway 17 just west of Iron Bridge.
Police said both vehicles were travelling eastbound at the time of the incident.
Eli Yoder, 29, was rushed to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Mango was fined $6,000 and was ordered to pay court costs during a hearing held in provincial offences court Aug. 6.
The truck driver's licence has also been suspended for a period of 14 months.
More than 60 charges laid against both Mango and the trucking company by police in relation to various commercial vehicle infractions were withdrawn.
