Third suspect arrested in Toronto shooting death of eight-year-old JahVai Roy

TORONTO — Toronto police say a third person is under arrest in connection with the August shooting death of an eight-year-old boy in the city's north end.

JahVai Roy was in bed when he was struck by a stray bullet as gunfire erupted outside his North York apartment building on Aug. 16.

Police say the child was pronounced dead in hospital despite life-saving measures.

He was laid to rest in his mother's home community of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island.

Investigators identified three youth suspects in the shooting, who had all fled the scene before officers arrived.

Two were previously arrested in the case and police say the third suspect was arrested on Sunday in Oshawa, Ont.

All three suspects are facing first-degree murder charges.
