Symington: A new Liberal government, same as the old Liberal government

‘The next leader of the Liberal government will be just like Justin Trudeau and the questions that Canadians are asking is how high will the carbon tax go?’

With Justin Trudeau finally forced to walk the plank by his own party – it’s almost entertaining to see local Liberals emerge as if they were bears coming out of hibernation oblivious to the last several years of scandal, mismanagement and general incompetence.

The reality is, the next leader of the Liberal government will be just like Justin Trudeau and the questions that Canadians are asking is how high will the carbon tax go?

This is a government out of gas, out of ideas and frankly out of touch with Canadians, Sudburians especially.

The carbon tax has sent the cost of living through the roof. An embarrassing approach to housing has made the opportunity to own impossible for most and the chance to find affordable rent just as unlikely for others.

Our economy has been mismanaged, our military underfunded (now missing more than 16,000 members in the ranks) and crime and drug use in our communities seems to be simply ignored.

Liberals are promising to follow Pierre Poilievre’s lead and finally axe the carbon tax, but do you believe any of them? Anyone recall a Liberal promise years ago to repeal the GST? Did that happen? They just can’t be trusted or believed — they’ll say anything to get your vote.

Moving forward we need a fresh start. An energized prime minister to stare down the challenges ahead. A government with energy, ideas, and one that puts Canadians and Canada as the top priority. Right now, no one knows who is even in charge of Canada and it  is time to take back the wheel and steer our country towards prosperity and success.

Canada needs a wholesale change and Sudbury needs to be part of that.

An election is likely coming this spring, I’m running to be part of the change Sudbury deserves. Sudbury deserves better than what it is getting — Sudbury needs to be part of that change.

I’d be honoured to serve you all in Ottawa with a Pierre Poilievre common sense-led Conservative government and help fix the mess the Liberals have left us.

Ian Symington is the Conservative Party of Canada candidate for the riding of Sudbury. He is a married father of three children. He grew up in Copper Cliff where he now practices medicine.
