Jason King has been a realtor in Sudbury for a decade, and in that time has built up a loyal client base. "I really take the time to listen to what our clients’ actual needs are, and try to advise them based on that,” says Jason. “I treat people like they’re me going through this process. I remember the questions I had when I was buying my first house, about financing, insurance and all that.”
Jason’s philosophy that he founded his business on is that it isn’t his job to make money— it’s his job to help people buy and sell homes—whether they’re listing a house for sale or looking to buy. From the other realtors on Team King to his administrative staff, Jason encourages this approach in all his team members. “We get a lot of referrals because people can genuinely see that in us.”
Jason often advises his clients to be patient; to hold out for the perfect home rather than rushing such a significant purchase. He doesn’t want them to have any buyer’s remorse. “You don’t have to go and win the bidding war. It’s as much an investment as it is a place to live.”
Because of Jason’s honesty and commitment to his clients’ best interests, he’s not only built a thriving business with a good reputation; he’s made friends along the way. Recently, he received a text from a client-turned-friend telling him how happy they are in their home and thanking him. It’s this social aspect that makes Jason’s job so fulfilling. “The ability to meet new people all the time is great, and getting to help them,” he says.
Jason’s work also takes him inside all kinds of homes in the Sudbury area, from waterfront houses to cottages to interesting apartments. Every day is different, but what’s consistent is the enjoyment he gets from exploring the city and meeting different Sudburians.
“As much as it’s a big city for northern Ontario, there’s a real sense of community here. It’s still slower-paced. People are friendly, they say hi to one another, they open the door for each other. And there are a lot of cool groups and things to do,” says Jason.
As a nature lover, Jason is never short on activities in Sudbury. When he’s not working, Jason can be found fishing, hiking, swimming, snowmobiling, skiing, or ice-fishing. He’s always had a love for the outdoors, partly due to his formative years at the YMCA’s John Island Camp— which he, his father and his siblings attended as youths. Every year, he donates funds to the camp to allow more kids the chance to have the same magical experience that he did.
Team King’s slogan is “You deserve a castle.” It’s not just a fun play on Jason’s name; it’s an expression of his belief that everyone should have a home that they’re truly happy in.
