A search is officially on for a new chief executive officer to lead NORCAT into its next chapter.

The Sudbury-based innovation and training centre posted an online job ad with the executive search firm Boyden on Sept. 18.

“This is a rare opportunity to lead one of Canada’s most globally recognized innovation organizations,” the post reads.

“With a committed board, a high-performing team, and a growing international reputation, the next CEO will be well-positioned to shape NORCAT’s continued success, strengthen its role as a trusted community leader, and drive meaningful economic and social impact.

The ad includes a long list of requirements for potential candidates, including serving as the public face of the organization, providing “vision, discipline, and entrepreneurial drive to guide NORCAT into its next chapter of growth.”

The successful applicant will work with key stakeholders, while fostering an inclusive and values-driven culture internally, balancing financial stewardship with innovation and the commercialization of forward-thinking technologies.

A particular focus should be paid to NORCAT Underground Centre’s global reputation as a “premier site for training, testing, and showcasing emerging technologies.”

No closing date for the application process is listed.

NORCAT embarks on a search for a new leader following the July announcement that current CEO Don Duval would be leaving the organization by year’s end.

Under Duval’s tenure, which lasted 13 years, NORCAT “established itself as the one-stop shop for all that is the future of mining technology and the global leader in skilled labour training and development for the mining industry,” Greg Maybee, chair of NORCAT’s board of directors, said in a statement released at the time.

Although the decision was a difficult one, the “time was right” for him to leave, said Duval, who’s most proud of establishing a solid corporate culture in his time.

While he didn’t reveal his future plans, Duval said he intends to remain in Northern Ontario.
