Another weekend of exciting soccer action is promised by the Sudbury Cyclones, as the men's team prepares for a return to the Cambrian College pitch for the final time in this campaign, said a Cyclones news release.

The Cyclones men are facing a must-win situation to keep promotion hopes alive against Hamilton United. Kick-off is Saturday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. at Cambrian.

The Cyclones sit second in the League-1 Championship table, which has only gotten tighter at the top in the past week, said the local soccer club. The Championship is now led by Unionville Milliken SC, who have 20 matches played and 37 points, identical to the Cyclones.

However they also hold the current tiebreaker, as they have more wins (Unionville has 11, Sudbury has 10).

The Cyclones have a two-point lead over The Borough FC, who have 19 matches played and 35 points, along with a three-point lead over York United Academy, with 34 points over 20 matches, said the release.

The club also said it is important to note that the top two clubs in the League-1 Championship will be promoted to the League-1 Premier for the 2026 season.

The team that finishes third in the Championship will participate in a playoff match against the club which finishes 10th in the Premier, with the winner gaining a spot in the Premier for the 2026 campaign as well.

Also, for the current League-1 Championship table, the first tie-breaker is total wins, with the second being head-to-head record, and the third being goal differential.

Saturday’s match features the 10-3-7 Cyclones facing the 0-16-4 Hamilton United. The Cyclones feature the league’s third-best defence, conceding just 21 goals this season. Hamilton features the league’s worst goal differential, with a -44. Saturday will be a celebration for the fans, honouring another great season of soccer in the Sudbury community.

Several vendors will be on site, including The Hydrant Fizz, among others. The Cyclones are inviting Sudbury soccer fans to join in on a great night to help send the Cyclones off on a winning note.

Staying up to date, the Cyclones 2025 campaign will conclude with a matchup on the road against Guelph United, on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 8 p.m.  Fans can stay tuned in with the Cyclones by visiting the website, where tickets are also for sale.
