Sudbury fire crews were called out to a blaze at a home under renovation on Howey Drive early on Nov. 13.
Greater Sudbury Fire Services Deputy Chief Jesse Oshell said the call came in at around 6:30 a.m.
“It wasn't occupied, so there's no injuries to report,” he said, adding that he had crews from four stations at the fire.
In speaking to Sudbury.com about the incident just before 8 a.m., he said the fire was “well under control, and we’re probably about to declare it out. We’re just looking for hot spots.”
He said the structure was not destroyed, but “there’s going to be some fire and smoke damage to the home.” Oshell said he doesn’t have information about the fire’s cause or whether it is suspicious at this time.
“I'm thinking perhaps a heater that was being used, an electric heater, because the building, there was limited utilities to it,” he said. “So I'm not overly concerned at this point, but I'll get a full report later this morning as to what went on.”
Howey Drive was closed to foot and vehicle traffic between Somerset Street and Devon Road due to the incident, with Greater Sudbury Police asking people to find alternate routes.
Oshell said the road was still closed when we interviewed him just before 8 a.m., as crews were still working on putting out the fire.
