Pumpkinferno returns to Sudbury with spooky new surprises

‘Gourd' times await visitors at this year's revamped Pumpkinferno event at Dynamic Earth, featuring everything from edible insects to a spooky Big Nickel light show

Spooky season has finally arrived and that means Pumpkinferno is back at Dynamic Earth, this time with some new additions including 40 new pumpkin displays and new immersive experiences sure to “delight everyone in your group (or should we say, gourd)” said a release from Science North.

Now in its 11th year in Sudbury, the family-friendly Halloween event returns to Dynamic Earth and runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, starting Sept. 25 until Oct, 26.

Featuring more than 7,000 glowing hand-carved pumpkins featuring everything from underwater sea creatures and medieval knights to hockey, ice fishing, and mining scenes.

Guests can also warm up with hot chocolate and s’mores, enjoy hands-on science, and take part in indoor activities with a Halloween twist — including the ever-popular Bug Bistro, where brave visitors can sample edible insects.

New this year, guests can discover never-before-seen experiences and hidden surprises waiting around every corner, indoors and out. Sudbury’s iconic Big Nickel will also transform for the season with an animated show projected onto the 30-foot replica coin and if you’re looking for something even more unique, the release states you can also book a family-friendly underground guided mine tour where visitors can descend seven-storeys underground and experience the evolution of mining from turn-of-the-century to modern day.

Tickets for Pumpkinferno must be purchased in advance at dynamicearth.ca/halloween. Limited parking is available on-site and included with ticket purchases.
