In cities and towns across Ontario (and at Queen’s Park and Parliament Hill) our journalists work for you. Their mission is to dig for answers and tell you what they find.

This new daily podcast — Closer Look — is all about the stories we tell.

Every weeknight, co-hosts Michael Friscolanti and Scott Sexsmith will go way beyond the headlines with in-depth, eye-opening conversations featuring Village Media reporters and editors, leading experts, key stakeholders and major newsmakers.

Although our new podcast officially kicks off tonight, the team released weeks worth of episodes throughout the summer in preparation for today’s launch. Among the notable guests were OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique, Stanley Cup champion Jonah Gadjovich, Ontario Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie, Algoma Steel CEO Michael Garcia, curling legend Jennifer Jones, and renowned journalist Steve Paikin.

Other episodes of Closer Look explored pressing issues that impact people across Ontario, including violent car thefts, online fraudsters, Doug Ford’s tunnel vision, and the heated debate over remote work.

Tonight’s show examines an unsolved mystery that has baffled police for four decades: the disappearance of 8-year-old Nicole Morin, who vanished from her west-end Toronto apartment building in the summer of 1985 and was never seen again. Be sure to check out the full episode at 7 p.m.

Later this week, ‘Closer Look’ will sit down with Donald Trump’s U.S. Ambassador to Canada, Pete Hoekstra. That interview will air Friday night.

“We’re excited to dig into some compelling conversations that go deeper than the daily news cycle,” says Friscolanti, the Editor-in-Chief of Village Media. “Our plan is to tackle a wide range of stories and issues that matter to people all across the province. We’ve started to do that already, but today it’s official.”

A leader in local journalism, Village Media owns and operates 27 community news sites across the province, including the one you’re reading right now. Our roster also includes The Trillium, the largest team of Queen's Park journalists covering provincial politics and policy at the Ontario Legislature.

Born digital, Village Media’s free, user-friendly websites are designed to be super-fast and easy to navigate, whether you’re on a phone, computer or tablet. More importantly, each site is a trusted source of accurate, fact-based reporting and other important community information, including weather reports, obituaries and classifieds.
