Greater Sudbury Police say their non-emergency phone line will be unavailable for one hour this evening (Oct. 1) as part of system upgrades.

Police say that as part of their ongoing preparation for the Next Generation 9-1-1 (NextGen911) operating system, they will be upgrading their main non-emergency phone line (705-675-9171) on Oct. 1 starting at 7:30 p.m.

This upgrade is expected to take approximately one hour and will not affect 9-1-1.

During the upgrade, the non-emergency phone line (705-675-9171) will be temporarily unavailable until approximately 8:30 p.m.

If there is an emergency, please call 9-1-1, say police.

Once the upgrade is complete, the non-emergency line will resume normal function.

The GSPS online reporting system will remain fully operational throughout the upgrade.

Community members are encouraged to use this platform for non-urgent matters during the temporary phone line outage.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to modernize our service delivery to better serve our community,” said Greater Sudbury Police.
