The winless Sudbury Wolves still couldn’t find their way to a W on Oct. 3 as they took to the ice at the Sudbury Community Arena against rivals the North Bay Battalion, dropping a 3-1 game. Their losing streak now at six games, including an extra-frame letdown to start the season.
Veteran Mike McIvor was in net for the visiting North Bay Battalion, while Finn Marshall once again got the nod in goal for the Sudbury Wolves.
The teams were well matched in the first period with eight shots apiece, and with neither McIvor nor Marshall letting pucks get by them, leading to a 0-0 score at the end of the first period.
But just over three minutes into the second period and down a man with Sudbury’s Blake Clayton serving a two-minute minor for interference, Battalion veteran Shamar Moses took a slap shot on Marshall from the right faceoff circle that fluttered by the Wolves’ goalie. The goal marked Moses’ first of the season, assisted by Cam Warren and Ethan Procyszyn putting the Battalion on top by a score of 1-0.
Less than two minutes later, the troops' Warren fed Ryder Cali the puck from behind the net, and Cali wasted no time in scoring his third goal of the season, with the other assist going to Bronson Ride, increasing North Bay’s lead to 2-0.
At the 5:35 mark of the middle frame, Chase Coughlan made a cross ice pass to Rowan Henderson in front of the net, but Sudbury’s Clayton picking up the rebound and scoring against McIvor for his first goal of the season for the Wolves, cutting North Bay’s lead to 2-1 with a single period remaining in the game.
Only 4:28 remaining in the third period, Liam Amidovski fired a slap shot from the high slot area past Marshall for his first of the season, assisted by Brandt Harper and Bronson Ride, sealing a 3-1 victory for the North Bay Battalion over the Sudbury Wolves.
The loss means the Wolves are still searching for their first victory of the season and will take their record of no wins, five regulation losses, and one overtime loss to Brantford on Friday, October 10 against the Brantford Bulldogs.
Puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
