Saturday afternoon in downtown Sudbury sounds like a perfect time to enjoy a little music.

And with this in mind, Nickel City Wind Ensemble is staging a free concert on Durham Street in front of the YMCA that afternoon, hosted by the Sudbury Arts Council and Downtown Sudbury BIA.

Led by David Young, Nickel City Wind is a 35-musician ensemble of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. They have been performing for 10 years now.

The wind ensemble will play such recognizable favorites as “Lord of the Dance,” “Imagine,” “Hawaii 5-0 Theme,” “Sweet Caroline”  and medleys from “Jersey Boys” and “Chicago,” to name a few.

“Something new this past year from the Nickel City Wind Ensemble is the Nickel City Jazz Ensemble who will also perform Saturday,” the arts council said in a news release. “Some of the toe-tapping favourites are ‘Birdland,’ ‘Stompin' at the Savoy,’ ‘You Can't Stop the Beat’ and ‘A Night in Tunisia.’”

Bring a lawn chair, water and a hat and enjoy two hours of late afternoon tunes from 3-5 p.m. on June 28.
