A 50-year-old Greater Sudbury man is facing five charges after Greater Sudbury Police had to shut down Balsam Street in Copper Cliff on Sept. 12 over a weapons complaint.
Police were dispatched to the area at around 7:50 a.m. on Sept. 12 after a person called to say a man had shot their vehicle with what the caller described as a gun.
Police set up containment around the residence and closed Balsam Street as a result.
“Officers attended the area and set up containment of the residence as the individual believed to be responsible was inside,” GSPS said in a news release. “The individual exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. A second person, not believed to be involved in the incident, also exited the residence.”
Officers then entered the residence to make sure no one else was inside.
The 50-year-old man who was arrested at the scene is charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon x2
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Pointing a Firearm
- Using a Firearm in the Commission of an Offence
The man had a bail court appearance on Sept. 12.
GSPS said the incident was “targeted” as the individuals are known to each other.
Additional charges could be pending following the execution of a search warrant at the residence.
