Letter: Lively Ski Hill is an asset to maintain, family says

Sudburian Rob Klein says the Lively Ski Hill is not only a big part of his family’s outdoor life, it is a valuable part of the city’s recreational options

The Lively Ski Hill is an amazing community facility. Since we moved here five years ago, it has been our favorite Northern Ontario wintertime recreation option. (To learn more about the situation with the ski hill, please refer to Sudbury.com’s latest story.)

The staff are amazing, the hill is safe and it has offered our family (toddlers to retirees) an affordable option we all enjoy together.

Our two kids learned to embrace winters here by skiing in Lively. We spent cold winter afternoons skiing instead of playing video games. Skiing in Lively has been our way of spending time together outside in the winter and it’s an important place to our family.

If we pride ourselves as a city that offers “four season outdoor adventure,” we need to have things for all ages to do outside when it snows.

I appreciate that we need to make difficult financial tradeoffs and no one wants taxes to go up, but I agree with Ward 2 Coun. Eric Benoit: this is a beloved city asset that deserves funding to remain open. Sudbury is a winter paradise and that means we need to continue funding our remaining outdoor all ages winter facilities.
