Kivi Park hosts more than 2,000 young runners for annual race

Thousands of young athletes from Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord took part in the annual cross-country race

Sudbury's Kivi Park was alive with running activity Tuesday morning when thousands of students from the Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord took part in that board's annual cross-country race, described as a highlight of the school year.

This dynamic event brought together nearly 2,000 runners, coaches and chaperones from schools across multiple school boards, said a news release.

Starting at 10 a.m., students from Grades 3 to 8 had the opportunity to participate in a variety of races in a friendly and stimulating environment, through the fields, the forests and the many trails at Kivi Park.

The weather was not hot, but overcast, slightly breezy and just cool enough to keep the runners feeling refreshed, said one of the coaches.

The cross-country race is more than just an annual competition. It promotes friendship, camaraderie, exercise and sportsmanship among young participants, while offering the chance to earn numerous awards and distinctions, said the news release.
