Impaired driver caught at Little Current Swing Bridge RIDE check

A driver caught in a RIDE check at the Little Current Swing Bridge is facing charges of driving while impaired, among other infractions.

At around 1:30 a.m. Sept. 13, the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting a RIDE check on Meredith Street East in Little Current, at the Swing Bridge. 

A vehicle was observed speeding towards the RIDE check, and police instructed the driver to stop. Further investigation on scene resulted in police completing a Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) with the driver. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired operation.

The 29-year-old woman from M'Chigeeng First Nation, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Fail to surrender insurance card
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Drive motor vehicle, no permit
  • Fail to notify change of address

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on October 7.
