EAST ALGOMA — Ontario Provincial Police say a fourth suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal residential fire in Huron Shores more than two years ago.
Police say 33-year-old Milad Aslami of Ottawa was located and arrested in May in Germany. Following legal proceedings, he was extradited to Canada and returned on Aug. 29.
He is charged with first-degree murder, arson — disregard for human life, and arson — damage to property. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear virtually in court on Sept. 4.
On Feb. 6, 2023, OPP officers, Mississauga First Nation Police Service and the Huron Shores Fire Department responded to a suspicious fire involving a home and vehicle on Mississagi Bay Road. Inside the home, the remains of 51-year-old Dwayne Kozuch were found. A post-mortem determined his cause of death was a gunshot wound.
In January 2025, three people from Blind River were arrested and charged in the case. One of them was also charged with first-degree murder.
Police say the investigation is continuing with assistance from multiple agencies in Canada and abroad, including the RCMP, Canada Border Services Agency, German police and Interpol.
Detective Inspector Ray St. Pierre of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch called the probe “a complex and far-reaching investigation” and credited international partners with helping bring the accused back to Canada.
