TIMMINS-  A dog is back on dry land after being rescued from the Grassy River.

Two kayakers with a dog were paddling the river in the west end of Timmins when they overturned yesterday (Sept. 17), said the Timmins Fire Department.

Their dog got stranded on the rocks below High Falls where there is a swift current, and the kayakers called the Timmins Fire Department for help.

Technical rescuers from Station 5 responded and safely rescued the dog.

"The two individuals had minor injuries and did not require further medical attention," reads the fire department news release.

"The Timmins Fire Department would like to remind all residents of the importance of water safety. Always wear a properly fitted Personal Flotation Device (PFD), carry an approved emergency kit, and stay within your skill level by avoiding advanced-level rapids."
