SCHREIBER — Details have emerged about a weekend train derailment along the north shore of Lake Superior.

Multiple cars in a CPKC freight train derailed about 5:45 am Sunday approximately 35 kilometres west of Schreiber.

A railway spokesperson told Newswatch nine cars carrying intermodal shipping containers, and one locomotive, left the track.

He said there were no injuries, and that none of the cars were carrying dangerous goods.

The incident left the rail line blocked until early Monday morning.

An investigation into the cause is still underway, but the Transportation Safety Board of Canada has not deployed personnel to the scene.

The TSB considers the incident a Class 5 occurrence, which means data may be obtained without sending a team to the accident site.
