Change is the name of a new, two-panel mural at HSN’s Sudbury Outpatient Centre, created by students and faculty in Cambrian College’s Design and Visual Arts program. The décor of the Sudbury Outpatient Centre of Health Sciences North (HSN) has changed, thanks to a new mural called Change.

The mural is comprised of two panels covering 18 square metres of space on two walls in the front entrance of the Sudbury Outpatient Centre.

The mural features the natural, northern landscape of Canada. It includes Atlantic salmon and

mallard ducks — migratory animals to reflect the changing seasons. A flowing river is also central to the mural, symbolizing the continuous movement of the landscape.

Change is the creation of students and faculty in the Design and Visual Arts program at Cambrian College.

"We are so pleased to collaborate with partners in the community annually to create these murals,” said Johanna Westby, a professor in the Design and Visual Arts program.

“This year’s project at the Sudbury Outpatient Centre was an opportunity for us to create a piece of artwork which enhances the space with calm and inviting colours and connection to the theme 'Change.’

“These murals provide a fantastic opportunity for Cambrian’s students and faculty to create a large-scale project in which they can take pride, and which can be enjoyed by the community for years to come."

“We really appreciate this generous gift from the class from Cambrian College,” said Samantha

Shadd, Clinical Manager for numerous programs at the Sudbury Outpatient Centre.

“The mural is beautiful and adds a nice touch to brighten up our space, inspire our staff and help provide a calming space for patients and families.”

Change is the latest community mural to be created by Cambrian’s Design and Visual Arts students and faculty. Other murals are located at Tom Davies Square (city hall), Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, Northeastern Elementary School and Science North.
