MISSISAGI RIVER — The body of a missing 19-year-old was recovered from the Mississagi River on Monday, two days after the individual went missing.
In a news release, the East Algoma OPP say officers responded to a call at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday after an aluminum boat with two people on board overturned.
"One person was located and was assisted by members of the public," the release says. "The second person was unaccounted for."
The OPP's Emergency Response Team with a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System, helicopter, multiple marine units and the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit conducted an extensive search, with assistance from the OPP's Provincial Liaison Team.
On Monday, the missing person from Blind River was recovered from the river, the OPP says.
The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service. A postmortem is scheduled for Wednesday at Health Sciences North in Sudbury.
"The OPP would like to thank the Mississauga First Nation community members, friends and family who assisted during this difficult time," says the OPP news release.
