A good day of fishing has paid off for a Garson resident who took second prize in a recent LOTTO 6/49 draw.

Patrick Brown of Garson has taken home more than $78,000 in prize money from the October 15 LOTTO 6/49 draw when he bought a ticket that was the result of a fishing trip with his buddies, said a news release from OLG.

“I was out fishing with some friends, and we each threw in $20. Whoever caught the biggest fish would win the pool. I ended up winning — about $140 — so I decided to buy some lottery tickets,” Brown said while he was at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his winnings.

The 65-year-old said he was at home when he checked his ticket and realized it was a winner.

“I felt shocked,” he recalled. “I told my buddy from our fishing crew right away and told him I could help him fix a few things in his cabin now. He was very happy.”

Brown said he plans to spend some of the winning cash on the cabin renovations as well as on his son's education.

LOTTO 6/49 offers players a chance to win two multi-million dollar jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday, for the same $3 per play, said the OLG news release.

The winning ticket was purchased at Fuddy Duddy’s Variety on Main Street in Iroquois Falls, Ontario.
