PORT COLBORNE — Police in Ontario's Niagara Region say a 27-year-old man has been arrested in a homicide investigation.

Niagara regional police say officers responded to a possible weapons incident at an address in Port Colborne where a man was found dead.

At the scene, they say officers also identified a possible armed suspect who had fled.

Police say residents were asked to stay in their homes and some local schools were placed in a hold and secure "out of an abundance of caution."

At around 3 p.m., police say the 27-year-old suspect was found and arrested.

Police did not immediately say what charges he is facing.

In a news release Wednesday, police say the homicide unit has taken over the investigation and further information will be released as it becomes available.
